Prophet Maryam, Zakariya, Yahya & Isa A.S. Brotherhood of Prophets & Masjid al-Aqsa

Biblical history and divine prophecy triptych

What if four prophets a devoted mother, an aging guardian, a promised son, and a miraculous child were cousins whose births angels announced… all tied to the sacred Bayt al-Maqdis and a 1,000-year saga of glory, betrayal, and divine wrath?

From Maryam’s chamber miracles to the Second Temple’s destruction this millennium shapes our present.

In Chapter 17: Prophet Maryam (A.S.), Zakariya (A.S.), Isa (A.S.), Yahya (A.S.), and Masjid al-Aqsa of Chronicles of Unknown, we witness the “Second Temple Period” : Solomon’s legacy to Jesus’s era. The Quran’s warnings (Surah Al-Isra) meet history’s ruins a mirror for Muslims today.

Imran’s Family: Chosen Over Worlds

Allah says:

“Indeed, Allah chose Adam, Nuh, the family of Ibrahim, and the family of Imran above all worlds a generation one after another…” (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:33-34)

The family of Imran includes Maryam, Zakariya, Yahya, and Isa a bloodline and spiritual brotherhood unparalleled in history.

Maryam’s Mother’s Vow:
The wife of Imran (Hannah in Islamic tradition) prayed for a child and vowed to dedicate it to the service of Bayt al-Maqdis. When she gave birth to a girl, she was surprised but accepted Allah’s will. She named her Maryam and prayed:

“I have named her Maryam, and I seek refuge for her and her offspring from Shaytan, the accursed.” (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:36)

Popular Question Answered: Who was Maryam in Islam and her story?
Maryam (Mary) is the most honored woman in Islam. A virgin mother of Prophet Isa (Jesus), raised in the temple under the care of Prophet Zakariya, she received angelic visits and was chosen above all women (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:42).

Zakariya’s Miracle: From Barrenness to a Prophet

Zakariya (A.S.) , a prophet and priest of Bayt al-Maqdis, became Maryam’s guardian. Every time he entered her prayer chamber (mihrab), he found her with out-of-season fruits summer fruit in winter, winter fruit in summer.

He said, “O Maryam, where did this come to you?” She said, “It is from Allah.” (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:37)

This miracle ignited hope in his aged heart. Though he was very old and his wife barren, he prayed:

“My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.” (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:38)

While standing in prayer at the mihrab, the angels called him:

“Indeed, Allah gives you good news of Yahya (John), confirming a Word from Allah (Isa), and he will be a master, pure, and a prophet among the righteous.” (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:39)

Popular Question Answered: Story of Prophet Zakariya and Yahya birth?
Zakariya asked for a sign. Allah made him silent for three days except through gestures (Surah Maryam 19:10). His wife conceived, and Yahya was born a unique name never given before (Surah Maryam 19:7).

Yahya (John the Baptist):
He was pure, ascetic, and wise from childhood. He confirmed the coming of Isa. The Quran says:

“And John, we gave him judgment as a boy…” (Surah Maryam 19:12)

Popular Question Answered: Why was John the Baptist beheaded?
The Quran does not detail his death, but Islamic tradition aligns with Biblical accounts: He was executed by Herod Antipas at the request of Salome (daughter of Herodias) after criticizing the ruler’s unlawful marriage. His head is believed to be preserved a shrine in the Umayyad Mosque, Damascus (called Jami’a al-Umawi), where a small domed structure commemorates Yahya’s head.

Maryam’s Miracle: Isa Without a Father

The angels spoke to Maryam directly:

“O Maryam, indeed Allah gives you good news of a Word from Him his name is the Messiah, Isa, son of Maryam, honored in this world and the Hereafter, and among those brought near.” (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:45)

She asked: “How can I have a son when no man has touched me?” The answer: “Thus Allah creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.” (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:47)

Miracles of Isa (A.S.) in the Quran:

  1. Spoke in the cradle defending his mother’s honor (Surah Maryam 19:30-33).
  2. Creates a bird from clay breathes into it, and it flies by Allah’s leave (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:49).
  3. Heals the blind and leper restoring sight and skin instantly (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:49).
  4. Raises the dead bringing people back from graves (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:110).
  5. Reveals hidden food telling people what they ate and stored (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:49).
  6. The Table Spread (Ma’idah) Disciples asked for a heavenly feast. Isa prayed, and Allah sent down a table with food as a sign (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:112-115).

Popular Question Answered: What are the miracles of Jesus in the Quran?
The Quran lists at least six major miracles, all performed “bi-idhni Allah” (by Allah’s permission). Unlike the Bible, the Quran emphasizes that Isa did nothing on his own it was divine power.

Popular Question Answered: Is Jesus crucified in Islam? Quran view
No. The Quran explicitly says: “They did not kill him nor crucify him, but it was made to appear so to them…” (Surah An-Nisa 4:157). Allah raised Isa to Himself. He will return before the Day of Judgment to defeat the Dajjal (Antichrist).

Bayt al-Maqdis: From Second Temple to Roman Ashes

The Second Temple was rebuilt after the Babylonian exile (516 BCE) by the returning Jews under Cyrus and later expanded by Herod the Great (1st century BCE). It was a magnificent structure but it lacked the Ark of the Covenant, which was lost.

However, Bani Israel again fell into corruption. Surah Al-Isra (17:4-7) warns of two destructions:

“We decreed for the Children of Israel in the Book: You will cause great corruption in the land twice, and you will reach great arrogance.”

The first was by Nebuchadnezzar (586 BCE). The second was by the Romans under Titus in 70 CE.

  • Roman legions besieged Jerusalem for months.
  • The temple was burned and razed to the ground.
  • Hundreds of thousands of Jews were killed or enslaved.
  • The Western Wall (Wailing Wall) is the only remnant a retaining wall, not part of the temple itself.

The Romans renamed Jerusalem Aelia Capitolina and banned Jews from entering. This was the second divine punishment.

Popular Question Answered: What happened to the Second Temple in Jerusalem?
Destroyed by the Roman Empire in 70 CE, fulfilling the Quranic prophecy of a second punishment. Jesus had prophesied it as well (Matthew 24).

Popular Question Answered: Why is the Western Wall important to Jews?
It is the closest accessible point to the site of the destroyed Holy of Holies. Jews have prayed there for centuries, mourning the temple’s loss and hoping for its rebuilding.

Hadith Mirror: Are We Repeating Bani Israel’s Mistakes?

The Prophet ﷺ warned:

“You will follow the ways of those before you, step by step, even if they entered a lizard’s hole, you would follow them.” Companions asked: “The Jews and Christians?” He said: “Who else?” (Bukhari 3456, Muslim 2669)

Bani Israel had:

  • Divine guidance and prophets
  • A sacred center (Bayt al-Maqdis)
  • Yet they fell into arrogance, moral decay, and betrayal of their covenant.

The result? Tyrants (Nebuchadnezzar, Titus) were sent to humiliate them.

Are Muslims today repeating the cycle?

  • Many have abandoned salah, justice, and unity.
  • Some rely on “Allah loves us” while committing the same sins.
  • Allah’s warning in Surah Al-Isra 17:8 applies universally: “If you return [to sin], We return [to punishment].”

But there is hope: The verse continues: “And We have made Hell a prison for the disbelievers.” The door to repentance is open until it isn’t.

Why Chapter 17 Matters

From angelic births to temple falls, Chapter 17:

  • Celebrates the brotherhood of four prophets connected to Bayt al-Maqdis
  • Documents the Second Temple period through Quran and history
  • Warns modern Muslims not to repeat the same mistakes
  • Ends with hope repentance before divine justice

Teaser for Chapter 18: The long gap after Isa the coming of the last prophet, and the final return to Bayt al-Maqdis.
