I teach critical thinking and bought this to use as an example of religious pseudoscience. I had to completely change my lesson plan. The author actually debunks more myths than he promotes. He applies real historical analysis to the disappearances and is openly skeptical of sensationalist claims. I don’t agree with his metaphysical conclusions but I cannot fault his method. I ended up assigning it as supplementary reading. My students loved it.
